Have you ever heard the story of Bubble Wrap? If not, it’s worth a quick run-through.

In the late 1950s, a couple of engineers named Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes wanted to create a new kind of wallpaper based on a product they’d developed that was made up of two plastic sheets, joined together, with air bubbles in between.  
At this point you may be asking, “Who on earth would cover their walls with this stuff?”

The answer: literally nobody.

Wow... What a Show!

This year's Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show in Indianapolis more than delivered on its billing as the world's premier event for motorsports professionals over three days of exhibits and a Race Industry Week that provided a wealth of training, education, networking opportunities and special events.

Attended by tens of thousands of racing and performance buyers and industry members, the December 6-8 expo at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium produced a one-of-a-kind experience and venue to shop aisles of new products and equipment by more than 1100 leading manufacturers and service providers.

They say life begins at 30. Granted, I’m not entirely sure who “they” are—if it’s the same people who claim you can’t have Pop-Tarts for dinner then just take this column with a grain of salt.

That said, we at Performance Racing Industry tend to follow conventional wisdom, and that’s why we’re fired up to begin our fourth decade of producing the world’s premier expo for motorsports professionals. If past is prologue, which is to say the last 30 years are a good indicator of what’s to come, then the next three decades, beginning in 2018, should be one helluva ride!

Everyone who works for a living belongs to some type of industry: Chefs are members of the restaurant/food service industry; farmers are members of the agricultural industry (sorry, it’s lunchtime); realtors are members of the housing industry; DIRECTV customer service representatives are members of the inconvenience industry; and so forth.

But unlike many others, a good 99.9% of racing industry members are here because we want to be. How do I know this, because it follows the same philosophy as snow skiing: Anyone who’s ever done it understands that when you’re sailing down a mountainside, you can’t go half-speed.
