FIA Approves Sale Of Formula One Group To Liberty Media

The World Motor Sport Council approved the change of control of Delta Topco Limited (the holding company of the Formula One Group) from CVC Capital Partners in favor of Liberty Media Corporation at a meeting in Geneva.
  One hundred percent of the shares in Delta Topco will transfer to Liberty Media Group.
Neil Verhagen, 15, Earns RRDC Mark Donohue Award

Verhagen, a high school student from Mooresville, N.C., was named the 46th recipient of the RRDC Mark Donohue Award. Verhagen became the youngest SCCA National Champion in history, winning the Formula F class during the SCCA Runoffs.
  Verhagen will be officially presented the award at the annual RRDC members’ dinner on January 25th.
CARS Tour Changing Qualifying, Race Formats For 2017 Season

One new qualifying format will be Group Qualifying, in which drivers will be grouped via random draw, and have five laps to set the fastest time. The fastest qualifier will start from the pole position for the feature event.
  Two new race formats introduced for the upcoming year will be Duel and Live Pit Stop race formats.
NASCAR Updates, Makes Changes To 2017 Rules
 Industry News
Tire limits and plate-race tweaks are among NASCAR’s 2017 rules updates, released last week. Rule book changes were made for its three national series, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
  The revisions were pertaining to vehicle and driver safety, as well as pit equipment and crew safety.
INDYCAR Announces Multiyear Contract Extension With Chassis Manufacturer

Officials announced at the North American International Auto Show a contract extension with Dallara, the sport's longtime chassis manufacturer. The multi-year agreement extends through the 2020 season.
  The 2017 season marks Dallara’s 20th anniversary in U.S.-based open-wheel racing.
SEMA Now Accepting Scholarship Applications
 Industry News
The Specialty Equipment Market Association is now accepting applications for the 2017 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund for students preparing for careers in the auto or auto parts industries, offering financial assistance of up to $5,000.
  The deadline for the program is March 1, 2017. Students can apply online.
National Sprint Car Hall Of Fame Inducts Eight
 Industry News
The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame announced the names of those inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 3, during the twenty-eighth annual ceremonies. Included are three drivers: Dave Darland, Tony Elliott and Terry McCarl.
  The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Knoxville, Iowa.
