IndyCar Manufacturers To Scale Back Engine Development In 2018

With the next set of Verizon IndyCar Series engine regulations in the works, Chevy and Honda will step back from the full slate of engine development options for the 2018 race season, as reported by RACER.
  The current 2.2-liter TTV6 engine formula for the Verizon IndyCar Series was first introduced in 2012.
Chili Bowl Nationals Expands To Six Days In 2019

Since its inception in 1987, the Chili Bowl Nationals has grown from a two-day show with a field of 52 entries to a five-day one with over 350 entries, with the most recent event taking place January 9–13, 2018.
  The 2019 Chili Bowl Nationals is set for January 14–19 at the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, OK.
Drag Racing Ends At Englishtown Strip

Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, which has hosted drag racing since 1965 and the NHRA Summernationals for the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series since 1971, will not conduct quarter-mile or eighth-mile drag racing at the historic New Jersey drag strip this year.
  Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, is owned and operated by the Napp family.
IndyCar: Leena Gade Joins Schmidt Peterson, 2018 Car Unveiled

Leena Gade's appointment to SPM marks the first time a female will serve as a lead race engineer in the Verizon IndyCar Series. The new 2018 race car and aero kit plan were also unveiled at the North American International Auto Show.
  The new Indy car and aero kit plan runs through 2020 with an option year in 2021.
Racing Pioneer Dan Gurney Passes Away At 86
 Industry News
Gurney was one of the most versatile racers in motorsports history, being one of only three drivers to win races in Indy car, Formula 1, NASCAR Cup and elite sports car competition (along with Mario Andretti and Juan Pablo Montoya).
  The legendary driver, team owner and car builder died on Sunday, January 14.
Motovicity Announces New Half-Mile Airstrip Event For 2018

The runway in Coalinga will host some of the country’s fastest import and domestic side-by-side top speed racing, featuring multiple classes and cash prizes.
  Never Lift will take place at the New Coalinga (Calif.) Municipal Airport on April 28–29.
F1 Releases Sporting Regulations For 2018

Formula 1 (F1) officials have released updates to the sporting regulations for F1's 2018 season, which include fewer engines per season, simpler grid penalties and a wider range of tire compounds.
  Although few in number, F1 officials called the regulation updates “major in significance.”
Eight New Inductees To Nat'l Sprint Car HoF
 Industry News
Eight legends of sprint car racing were announced recently as the 29th class of inductees to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (NSCHoF), which is led by late drivers Bryan Clauson and Dave Steele. Pennsylvania veteran Lance Dewease was also elected.
  The NSCHoF 2018 induction ceremony will take place on June 2, 2018, in Knoxville, Iowa.
